The Diabetes Treatment Program is available at several hospital and clinical centers in Havana. The treatment of diabetic foot ulcer will be with HeberProt-P, an innovative Cuban drug.

Approximately 290 million patients from 33 countries have benefited  from the Cuban medicine HerberProt-P.   This unique medicine was developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) is considered first in its class for the healing of complex wounds, ischemic ulcers and the results of the diabetic complications. Nearly 1,000,000 U.S. patients experience diabetic foot ulcer each year, increasing the risk of lower limb amputations. 

Clinical trials of Heberprot-P in patients with diabetic foot ulcers have shown that repeated local use of this product can enhance healing of chronic wounds safely and efficaciously.

The diabetes treatment program includes the initial evaluation with a specialist of internal medicine, daily nursing care, daily visits by your assigned doctor, hospitalization in a private room, and meals.

Tests include full CBC, coagulation studies, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), recession c, creatinine, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), urea, uric acid, glucose, hemoglobin (Hba1c), liver function and injury tests, lipid profile study, total protein, chest x-rays, complete abdominal ultrasound, EKG and, if needed, vascular tests.

The multidisciplinary working team at La Pradera International Health Center includes an internist, a neurologist, a nutritionist, and the podiatrist, in addition to the psychotherapist.

The  goal is to control the amount of glycemia in blood, evaluate the stage of the disease and its complications (kidney, neurological, vascular, and others) and educate to prevent further issues.
